Ahvaz Pipe Mills (National Iranian Steel Group)

in
Iran

The Ahvaz Pipe Mills produce large-diameter longitudinally welded steel pipes used in Iran’s extensive oil, gas, and water pipeline network. The facility is critical to Iran’s ability to construct and maintain its pipeline infrastructure, including major projects such as the Goreh-Jask bypass pipeline completed in 2021.

Geography

History

The pipe mills were established as part of Khuzestan’s heavy industrial development in the latter Pahlavi era, positioned to supply the oil industry that dominates the province. After 1979 they were nationalised and integrated into the National Iranian Steel Group. Sanctions have affected access to the specialised steel plate and welding technology used in high-pressure pipeline manufacture, requiring domestication of some processes.

Present Day

The mill supplies pipes to NIOC projects, gas pipeline expansions, and water infrastructure across Iran. It is strategically important as Iran continues to develop bypass pipelines and expand domestic gas distribution networks. Its Khuzestan location places it close to the oil fields that generate demand for its products.
