Kurakhove is a strategic city on the western edge of the Donetsk basin, positioned beyond Selidove and forming a stable support zone for energy distribution and logistics. Its thermal power plant is one of the most critical energy assets in the region.

Developed as part of Soviet-era industrial expansion, Kurakhove became a major energy provider for the region. After 2014, the city served as a rear-area stabilizer supporting displaced populations and redirected goods from the eastern Donbas. Industrial contraction continued, but the power plant retained strategic relevance.
