On 1 October 1949, Mao Zedong proclaimed the People’s Republic of China in Beijing, marking the establishment of Communist rule on the mainland after civil war victory.

Background

Following decisive CCP victories in the final phase of the civil war, Nationalist
authorities withdrew to Taiwan. The CCP consolidated control over the mainland and
announced a new socialist state, redefining China’s political system, property
relations, and international alignment.
