Kurakhove Power Plant
The Kurakhove Power Plant is the primary thermal generation facility in western Donbas, playing a central role in sustaining both civilian life and industrial activity. Its output feeds Pokrovsk, Myrnohrad, Selidove, and surrounding districts.
Geography
Situated northeast of the Kurakhove reservoir, the complex occupies a broad industrial zone consisting of turbine halls, coal yards, transformer arrays, and auxiliary service buildings. The plant connects directly to several road corridors used for maintenance and supply transport.
History
Commissioned during Soviet-era industrial expansion, the plant has long served as one of the region’s most important energy providers. After 2014, it became a critical stabilizing asset as other facilities in contested areas lost capacity.
Present Day
The plant remains fully integrated into Ukraine’s wartime energy grid. Its output is essential for supporting population centers and industrial nodes in the western Donbas. Due to the strategic role of power infrastructure in modern warfare, it is considered a high-risk, high-value target.
