Selidove is an industrial city located west of Pokrovsk, forming the southern segment of the western Donbas urban chain. The city anchors a set of mining settlements and logistics routes critical to movement across the theatre.

Developed primarily around coal mining and related industrial activity, Selidove grew through the Soviet industrial expansion cycle. Post-2014 the city took on increased logistical importance as traffic shifted westward from active conflict zones in central Donbas.
